In English:
Tasogare no Kishi, Akatsuki no Sora (黄昏の岸 暁の天) "The Shore at Twilight, The Sky at Daybreak" is the story of how returned to the twelve kingdoms the kirin of Tai. There is a summary of the book:
Years ago, Taiki was waiting for his majesty the king of Tai in the garden of the palace while he was suppressing a rebellion in the province of Bun. Taiki, fearing for the safety of his master, sent his two shireis to protect him. Then, the messenger who had kept the connections between the king and the Saiho went alongside with the news that Gyousou had died in battle, but Taiki refused to believe. The man swung his sword against Taiki, dropping it on his horn (That he had as kirin). Taiki cried of pain while a meishoku broke out in the imperial palace. Taiki had traveled to Hourai.
Risai, general of the kingdom of Tai, crossed all the way from Tai to ask for help the Queen of Kei to find the kirin, although it cost her right arm and left her mortally wounded. Youko decides to help without hesitation. Risai later reveals her past in Tai, telling how Jou Asen (Senior Minister) misled the court, the king and the Taiho to usurp the throne, also adding that the Hakuchi had not fallen, indicating that the king wasn't dead.
The forces of the kingdom of Kei, En, Han and Ren went together to take the first step, find Taiki in Hourai. With exhaustive search, they managed to return to the twelve kingdoms the kirin making him immortal (was the only way), but his horn had not recovered (Because he was poisoned in Japan when someone forces him to eat meat) and his hair was short, and therefore had no hope of transforming again. Since the other kingdoms couldn't do more, Taiki and Risai decided to go themselves to the kingdom of Tai.
This book is quite interesting I recommend it!
My fanfic (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6263610/1/Two_moons_in_the_sky_the_hope_of_light) is after these events (17 years later to be exact).
